The best Indian wedding song depends on the moment. Mehendi needs something easy to sing along to. Haldi needs something loud. Sangeet needs songs people can choreograph. The baraat needs a beat that gets everyone moving. The bridal entry and vidaai need something soft.

This list covers all six functions. It mixes songs that have worked at weddings for years with the songs topping India’s charts in 2026, like Gehra Hua and Shararat from Dhurandhar.

Every song is tagged with its film or source, so your DJ can find the right version fast.

What Indian wedding songs are trending in 2026

Songs from Dhurandhar and Saiyaara lead this year. Here is what the charts show.

  • Gehra Hua (Dhurandhar): Shashwat Sachdev composed it and Irshad Kamil wrote the lyrics, and Arijit Singh and Armaan Khan sing it. It was No. 1 on Billboard’s India Songs chart in the week of 7 March 2026 and was still No. 3 in the week of 20 June 2026. The album version runs 6:02, so ask your DJ for a 2 to 3 minute cut.
  • Shararat (Dhurandhar): Madhubanti Bagchi and Jasmine Sandlas sing it. It was No. 1 on Billboard India Songs in the week of 24 January 2026.
  • Saiyaara (title track): It topped YouTube’s 2025 trending songs list in the music video category. Its song Tum Ho Toh was No. 8 on Spotify’s India chart in the week of 18 June 2026.
  • Sahiba (Aditya Rikhari): It was No. 3 on Billboard India Songs in the week of 7 March 2026, its 34th week on the chart.
  • Dhurandhar: The Revenge (March 2026): Main Aur Tu, sung by Jasmine Sandlas with a rap verse by Reble, was released on 17 March 2026. Jaiye Sajana is a Punjabi romantic track written and sung by Satinder Sartaaj with Jasmine Sandlas. Aari Aari got a huge crowd reaction when Sandlas, Khan Saab and Sudhir Yaduvanshi performed it live at the album launch.

Songs now spread through reels first. India’s music trends are increasingly driven by tracks that audiences repurpose for shorts and reels. Your guests may already know the steps.

What time does the music have to stop at an Indian wedding?

Nationally, loudspeakers and music systems cannot be used between 10 pm and 6 am, except in closed premises like banquet halls and community halls. This comes from the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.

What that means for your wedding:

  • An open lawn is not a closed hall. Ask your venue how it handles late music outdoors.
  • A state exception exists, but it is narrow. States may permit loudspeakers from 10 pm to midnight on cultural or religious festive occasions, up to 15 days a year. Do not assume it covers your wedding.
  • There is a volume limit too. The Supreme Court set the limit at the boundary at 10 dB above the area’s ambient standard or 75 dB, whichever is lower.

Ask your venue four questions:

  1. What time must outdoor music stop?
  2. Can the indoor hall run later?
  3. Who holds the sound permission?
  4. What is the decibel limit at the boundary?

Get the answers in writing. Rules vary by state, so confirm with the venue and local authority. This is general information, not legal advice.

How do you build a wedding playlist?

Pick anchor songs first, then let the DJ fill the gaps. Follow these seven steps.

  1. List every function and how long it runs.
  2. Pick three anchor songs per function.
  3. Layer by age: classics first, newer songs as energy rises.
  4. Write a must-play list and a never-play list.
  5. Ask for cuts of any song longer than 4 minutes.
  6. Test the sound at the venue before the function.
  7. Finalise the playlist at least two to three weeks before the wedding.

How many songs do you need? As a rule of thumb, plan 25 to 30 songs for mehendi or haldi, and 40 to 50 for sangeet or baraat. Add a few backups, because functions rarely run on time.

What are the most common wedding music mistakes?

  • Over-planning every minute. A good DJ watches faces, not playlists.
  • Ignoring older guests. Old songs matter. Try Baharon Phool Barsao (Suraj, 1966) or Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna early in the evening.
  • Playing full-length songs. Long tracks stall the floor.
  • Skipping the sound check. Sound quality can ruin a perfect song.
  • Forgetting the cut-off time. The venue’s music deadline is not negotiable on the night.
