The number that really matters is the night temperature, because your sangeet, pheras and reception all happen after dark.
One more thing most people miss: in the hills, winter still brings rain. Here are the real numbers for both.

Colder than most couples expect. And the gap between destinations is very large. A December night in Goa sits around 22°C. A December night in Rishikesh sits around 7.5°C. That is a 14 degree difference between two properties a couple might be choosing between.

November. It is the most comfortable month across almost every Indian destination, and it is consistently less booked than December. In November, Jaipur averages 28.2°C by day and 14.7°C at night. Udaipur is 28.2°C and 15.2°C. Jaisalmer is 29.7°C and 16.9°C.
Those are evening temperatures where guests stay outdoors comfortably without heaters. By December, night temperatures across Rajasthan drop 4 to 6 degrees. By January they drop further.

In Rajasthan and Goa, almost never. In the Himalayan foothills, yes. This is the most overlooked risk in winter wedding planning. Goa is the only destination in this list where that genuinely works. December nights sit at 21.8°C and December rainfall averages just 5 mm.

Jaipur: Palace weddings built for cold nights
Jaipur is dry through winter, at 9 mm of rain in January. The night is the constraint, at 8.0°C in January, so you want strong room inventory and indoor options. The largest room blocks are Fairmont, Jaipur and Hyatt Mansarovar at 245 rooms each, ITC Rajputana at 218, and The Leela Palace at 200.

The caution is specific to Udaipur. Lakeside and island venues involve boat transfers, and a boat transfer at 9°C after a late function is a different guest experience from a walk across a lawn. Plan the last transfer earlier than you think you need to.

What should you check at a venue before booking a winter wedding?
Six questions. Ask all six on the site visit, in this order.
1. Is there an indoor hall the same size as the lawn?
Not a smaller hall. The same size. If 250 guests are on the lawn and the backup hall holds 120, you do not have a backup.
2. How many patio heaters does the property own?
Ask for the number they own, not the number they can arrange. Arranged heaters get shared across simultaneous events on peak December dates.
3. Do guests walk outdoors between the function and their rooms?
On an 8°C January night, a five minute outdoor walk after a four hour function is what guests remember. Properties where rooms open onto the function area work far better in deep winter.
4. Are there enough rooms on site for everyone?
Room count, not banquet capacity, is what limits your winter guest list.
5. What time does the function need to start?
Winter days are shorter. Jaipur averages about 9 hours of daylight in December against 12 in May. Check your muhurat timing against sunset before you fix the date.
6. Where do elderly guests sit?
Every wedding has fifteen to thirty guests who cannot sit outdoors for four hours in single digit temperatures. They need a heated indoor space with a view of the function.
What are the most common winter wedding mistakes?
Booking December because it is “the season” without checking the night. December in Jaipur means 9.7°C nights. That is a heated wedding, which is a different budget and a different feel from what most couples picture.
Assuming winter means zero rain. True in Rajasthan and Goa. Not true in Jim Corbett or Rishikesh.
