Jai Mahal Palace is a Taj heritage hotel built in 1745, set across 18 acres of Mughal-style landscaped gardens in Civil Lines. It was the residence of three Prime Ministers of the princely state of Jaipur before becoming a hotel, and the Indo-Saracenic architecture has been kept intact through restoration.

What separates Jai Mahal Palace from the Kukas resorts is location. It sits inside the city, five minutes from Jaipur Junction and half an hour from the airport, so guests arriving by train walk out of the station and are at the venue before they have finished their first phone call home. The Palace Lawns is the headline space at 74,206 sq ft, holding up to 3,000 guests. Laid out on a horse polo theme in front of the palace facade, it takes the pheras and reception at a scale most city hotels cannot match.

Poolside Lawns and Fountain Lawns both hold up to 500 across 33,788 and 25,349 sq ft. Either works for a sangeet or a cocktail evening, and running them at the same time is straightforward given the acreage. Lotus Pond is the one couples remember. Set among blossoming lotus flowers in the landscaped gardens, it takes 100 guests and suits an intimate mehendi or a gala dinner for the immediate families. Celebration Lawns nearby takes 90.

Indoors, the Durbar Hall holds up to 150 and the two boardrooms, Silver Oak and Sterling, take 14 each. Worth knowing plainly: indoor capacity at Jai Mahal Palace tops out at 150, so a large monsoon wedding needs covered structures on the lawns rather than a move inside.

The stay runs to 94 rooms and 6 suites, from the 301 sq ft Heritage Room to a 1,291 sq ft Deluxe Premium Suite. Two restaurants sit on the property, Cinnamon for royal Indian cuisine from four princely states and Giardino for Italian. Worth knowing before you plan: catering, decor and alcohol are all in-house only, so you work with the Taj team rather than bringing your own vendors. Jain and customised dietary menus are available. Parking runs to 150 cars with valet service.

October to March is the window. Days stay pleasant and evenings cool enough for the lawns to run late. April to June gets too hot for afternoon functions in the open. Through the monsoon, the limited indoor capacity means covered lawn structures are the practical answer. December and January book out early, so plan eight to twelve months ahead.
