About Samode Palace, Jaipur

Samode Palace is a 475-year-old Indo-Saracenic palace in the Aravalli foothills at Samode village, about an hour from Jaipur. It has hosted royalty, celebrities and artists, and it is one of the few Rajasthan palaces where the original murals and painted interiors have been preserved rather than restored over.

This is the intimate option rather than the large one. Samode suits a wedding of 100 to 280 guests where the palace itself is the point, not a property where 1,000 people fit on a lawn. The central courtyard is where most couples hold the pheras. Ringed by the palace on all sides and open to the sky, it photographs better than anything else on the property and needs almost no decor.

The lawn is the largest space at 7,000 sq ft, seating 280 or holding 700 standing. It takes the reception or a cocktail evening, with the palace lit behind it.

Indoors, the Durbar Hall is the weather backup and the setting for mehendi or a welcome dinner. There is also a Durbar Terrace, a rooftop and a poolside lawn, each suited to a smaller function, so a three-day sequence can move around the property without repeating a setting. The stay runs to 43 rooms and suites: 20 Deluxe Rooms, 19 Deluxe Suites and 4 Royal Suites, each different from the next, with murals, carved couches and open bathtubs. A guest list beyond about 90 people will need rooms elsewhere.

That is where Samode Bagh comes in. The sister property is seven minutes away, with 44 luxury tents, a banquet suite for up to 500 and a lawn that holds 1,000. Couples routinely book both, running the welcome dinner and mehendi at the Bagh and the pheras, cocktail and reception at the Palace. If your guest list is above 300, that combination is the realistic plan rather than the Palace alone.

Worth knowing before you plan: catering, decor and alcohol are in-house. An outside DJ is permitted. Parking runs to 100 cars with valet service. Samode sits about 42 km from Jaipur International Airport and 40 km from Jaipur Junction, roughly an hour either way. It is further out than most Destination Wedding in Jaipur properties, and that seclusion is the point: guests arrive and stay, and the village around the palace is part of the experience.

October to March is the window. Days stay pleasant and evenings cool enough for the courtyard and lawn to run late. April to June gets too hot for afternoon functions in the open. Through the monsoon the Durbar Hall carries the indoor load. December and January book out early, so plan eight to twelve months ahead.
